Are You LinkedIn?

Did you ever think there would come a day that the online communities would not only be able to connect you to friends from your past, but also get you that dream job you’ve always wanted? Well now you can with LinkedIn.

During the Spring 2011 semester I was able to travel to New York for an internship during fashion week. While there I was able to talk to some very important people in the fashion industry: Joe Zee, creative Director of Elle Magazine, Robbie Myers, editor in chief of Elle Magazine, and others.

I wasn’t expecting to run into such big names, so I wasn’t carrying my resumé around with me. What do I do? LinkedIn! I was fortunate enough to have created a LinkedIn profile before heading to New York and was able to give them my information so they could look me up and see what I had to offer them.

I thought that was the end of my LinkedIn experiences there, but I was wrong. I had a friend that knew I was going to be out there at the time. So he set up a small interview for me with a friend that he has that is involved in social networking. I have done work for non-profits and America First Credit Union in social media and thought it would be fun to have a career in that field.

When I sat down the guy knew everything about me. He had already been on my LinkedIn profile and looked at the work I had created for others. He was also able to see what other employers had to say about me and if they would recommend me or not.

It was a good thing I had everything updated and made sure I had recommendations on all the jobs that I had posted on my profile. Because of my LinkedIn profile, I was able get my information to some great people and multiple job offers.

LinkedIn is the way of the future for getting a job. More and more employers are finding employees through LinkedIn and you could be too. It’s really easy and it can’t hurt to try it out because it’s totally free. So go and create your profile today.
